7 Examples of Brands Building Strong Communities
A brand community is a group of people who share a common interest in a particular brand. Brand communities can be online or offline, and they often form around shared values or interests.
Brand communities can provide valuable insights for companies, as well as a way to build loyalty and advocacy among customers. Here are 7 examples of thriving brand communities:
VSCO: When you look at brands that invest in the creative community, VSCO needs to be at the top of your list. Since launching in 2011, they’ve always championed the creative community and have continued to innovate with products, like Spaces, and through digital gatherings.
Tracksmith: If you run any distance at all you’ve likely heard of Tracksmith, a running apparel brand based in Boston, MA known equally for their storytelling and community building. When we talk about community, we often look at what brands are doing in-person first, and that is something Tracksmith does really well with events like their Twilight 5000. This past summer they hosted 16 events around the country that would bring together runners of all levels.
Notion: A tech platform building community? Yes, and Notion does it well in ways we haven’t mentioned yet. Of course, they host in-person events, but the best part of their community strategy is that they have built a platform that empowers creators to build their businesses with Notion.
Golfers Journal: How do you differentiate yourself from other brands when we can get free content online? You build community through experiences. Over the years, the Golfers Journal has continued to invest in their event series that opens some of the hardest-to-play courses in the country to their readers.
Aqua Training Bag: This fitness brand typically works between two communities, (1) the athlete and (2) the trainer. Both communities have very different goals and come together for different reasons. Aqua Training Bag finds way to celebrate both and to build. Learn more about our community work with Aqua Training Bag.
Reddit: Reddit is home to thousands of online communities, including many devoted to specific brands. For example, the r/Nike subreddit is a place for Nike fans to share news, product reviews, and advice.
Nike: Speaking of Nike, the company has also cultivated a strong brand community through its social media channels. A look at the recent launch of .SWOOSH will give you a glimpse into the community building efforts at Nike.
